I’m happy to report that Maurice the mouse is still fit and well. I caught a glimpse of him late last night as he came out to munch his daily rations.

Busy day ahead. My mini-vegetables have arrived, I’m making another sourdough loaf (sorry Nigel) and I have procured a couple of masks.

There are two things that I vowed to do during this lockdown. Read more, and do some kind of exercise every day. I’ve failed miserably on both counts.

Hopped on the scales this morning. Well, hopped implies a certain enthusiasm doesn’t it? There was none of that I can assure you.

I lay in bed listening to the blackbird singing loudly in the garden this morning. He sits on the top of our gate post. A little treat to start the day.

A dreary day here in the Loire. Grey and dull. It’s trying to rain but not making a very good job of it. A sluggish start in this house.

Up bright and breezy this morning to get that sourdough loaf in the oven. Great expectations as they say (well I have great expectations anyway).

Lemon and lime drizzle cake for breakfast with a black coffee. Life’s not so bad after all. A bit of a treat to start the day.

So, confinement has been extended until May 11th. After that, (if all goes to plan), there’ll be a progressive reopening of nuseries, schools and colleges.

A rather cloudy start to the day brightened by the first sighting of a Hoopoe in the garden. Hoopoes are such beautiful exotic looking birds.

Another sunny morning this Easter Sunday. As I lie in bed I can hear the gentle hum of the cooler in the winery opposite. A sure sign of warmer weather.
