I try to be generous with my mince pies, spreading the British cheer around me here in France (much to the bafflement of the French).

Woke up with a thundering headache this morning. That’ll be the sulphites in the wine you drank last night then! No! It won’t be that but…

I returned from the UK on Monday night and since then it’s been a week of administration punctuated by a couple of days of pure indulgence.

We’re off! Harvest has started in the Loire and the grapes are coming in. The earliest harvest in living memory for many.

Kettle on, tea made, I open the door to let the cat in and what do I see? Two kittens playing on the grass. Two, no three, no four, no five.

Big day today. It’s five months since I last had my hair cut and today’s the day. Looking forward to being pampered just a little

The bad news this morning is that I can’t bend down far enough to put my socks on. The good news is – I don’t have a headache. Hooray!

Lightening flashes illuminated the sky throughout the night. We lay in bed waiting for the storm to come but it never did.

Those wretched squirrels are still at it in the attic. We spent a couple of hours lying awake last night alongside the cat, all three of us looking up.

After the trauma of being breathalysed last night I woke up bright and early and enjoyed an hour listening to the birds with a large cup of tea.

Soft persistent rain woke me up this morning. That and the blackbird singing, perched in his usual spot on the aerial of our neighour’s house.

Bad news from the UK. The vineyard where Nigel worked before we moved to France suffered terrible frost damage a few nights ago. 90-100% damage.
