Salon des Vins de Loire

salon des vins de loire 19

Back in Touraine after a busy few days tasting in and around Angers. We’re pleased to report that we tasted some fabulous wines, mostly from the 16, 17 and 18 vintages.

Both whites and reds from the 2017 vintage are extremely appealing managing to combine lovely ripe fruit with that quintessential freshness for which the Loire is well known.

And the 2018 vintage in the Loire? What can I say? You’re going to find some amazingly ripe and full bodied wines at amazing prices from this vintage. Even the most humble parcels turned in lovely ripe fruit and quite present tannins befitting rather grander origins. In some cases the whites from 2018 seem a teensy bit low in acidity but I think most of you are going to love them too. We are particular fans of lean, crisp whites with zingy freshness and acidity (our taste and not necessarily yours!). The 18 whites are rich and full with good structure, softness and appeal.

I’ll be posting tasting notes and comments from our tastings over the coming few weeks. All in all the Salon was a big success with good visitor numbers and very encouraging wines.

We look forward to presenting the wines of our partner growers as part of our Loire Wine Discovery days this year.
