Château Gaillard Amboise

Chateau Gaillard Amboise

Chateau Gaillard is a beautiful Renaissance chateau in the centre of Amboise that has been lovingly restored and has delightful gardens.

It’s a lovely place to visit. You can visit the interior of the chateau itself, take a walk around the beautiful gardens and enjoy a snack or drink in the little café.

At the moment, guided visits are in French. I recommend doing a ‘free’ visit instead. You’ll be given a brochure in English and can potter at your own pace. If you are a French speaker but have English people with you that don’t speak the language, stick to the free visit. There is little chance to translate without bothering the French visitors!!

The gardens are delightful. The estate was the first to bring oranges to the region and there are more than 50 different varieties of citrus at the chateau today. The design and layout takes its inspiration from the Italian gardens of the Amalfi coast around Naples.

Entrance to the chateau and gardens costs 13€ with small discounts for the over 65’s, and students.
