What’s on the cheese board this week? Olivia Fermier

Goat’s cheeses are at their best at the moment and this little cheese that we bought yesterday at France Fromages in the covered market Les Halles in Tours is the best fresh goat’s cheese we’ve tasted in a long long time.

Made from raw goat’s milk it’s found close to Sisteron in the Alps of Haute-Provence. It’s flavoured with local herbs and has a layer of black olive tapenade in the middle. A small black olive and olive leaves decorate the top.

The cheese was created in 1995 by Madame Isabelle Donneaud and maries together two local products – goat’s cheese and olives!

Super fresh and light on the palate, the fresh herbs come through and the layer of creamy olive paste is wonderfully complementary. Nigel says he could eat an entire cheese on its own instead of dessert!
