Did you know that Anjou in the Loire valley is the biggest producer of quinoa in Europe? Maybe you’re surprised to learn that we grow it here at all.
In the past 10 years or so it’s been gaining popularity and is often planted around us here in Noizay too.
Quinoa has fewer calories and carbohydrates than white rice and its fibres help to lower cholesterol. It’s also gluten free!
I took the photo the other day walking through the vineyards. A small parcel of quinoa amongst the thousands and thousands of vines.
So, no need to add to our carbon footprint importing quinoa from Peru or Bolivia. We have it here on our doorstep.
Quinoa is a neutral grain and tastes bland served plain but it soaks up dressings like a dream so try it with my spicy dressing that I often use for coleslaw.
