Personal news – my life in the Loire

I’m so excited to be launching Life in the Loire with Le Tasting Room. It’s something that we’ve been mulling over for a long time and this winter after much thought (and many glasses of wine), we decided to go ahead this season.

Over the years we’ve met so many wonderful people from all over the world and had so many unforgettable days. This seems like a great way to keep in contact and I really hope that it will be a two-way thing. I can’t wait to hear how you get on with our recipes and what subjects you’d like covered in the months to come. Please leave your comments on the blog won’t you.

This is our 11th year of trading and it’s fair to say that France doesn’t make it easy for the small business owner. The forthcoming train strikes will affect our guests coming down from Paris and that’s a real pain. It’s hard to justify giving people a job for life, free 1st class travel and retirement at 52 in my eyes but then that’s just a personal view and one that would no doubt get me into trouble with some of our neighbours.

France fights desperately to resist any change and in particular when that may potentially affect the work/life balance.  And yet this is what we love about France so much. The fact that there IS a work life balance, that people take so much pleasure in cooking, eating and spending time with family and friends.

And then there’s Brexit. Don’t ask about that or I’ll be here all day!

Tomorrow we have guests and our lunch menu will be confit of duck, duck fat roasted potatoes with fresh rosemary from the garden and a fresh green salad to refresh the palate. There’ll be a cheeseboard of course from our usual supplier Beillevaire (to be decided tomorrow morning) and then a homemade dark chocolate mousse with some of the first red fruits of the season.

Until next time…

Your Loire Wine Lady
