Art Is An Ale – a new craft brewery in Amboise

Good news for Amboise. A new craft brewery opened in Amboise yesterday offering a range of hand crafted beers.

Franco/American couple Matt and Katie Perradeau are brewing American craft style beers using French ingredients. We popped in yesterday to have a taste and to wish them good luck.

At the moment 4 beers are on offer. We opted to have a taster of them all which is a great option as you can taste a little of each and then decide which one to go for!

A taster of each is a great option

We approached the tasting much as we would a wine tasting. We looked at colour and clarity of each one, discussed aromas and then tasted them.

Chromatic Cream Ale is the blonde. Super fresh and citrussy it’s a lovely refreshing summer beer. We loved the light, clean notes. Perfect for a hot day!

Iridescent is the IPA. Lovely fresh notes on the nose and a really hoppy character. It has pronounced bitterness but not too bitter for me. We both really enjoyed this one.

From right to left you have the Chromatic, Iridescent, Abstract and Stout

Abstract is the Amber Ale. Much less pronounced bitterness than the IPA. Softer and rounder and maybe more of a crowd pleaser. Although it was our least favourite of the 4, we still really liked it but it stood out less for us. Maybe that’s the English love of IPA for you.

And last but not least, the Stout. It had delicious aromas of black treacle, bonfire smoke and dark chocolate without verging into any hint of heaviness. Still fresh on the palate. Nigel really liked it, me too.

You can pop in for a pint and enjoy a light bite too. It’s a great addition for Amboise and we wish them every success. We’ll definitely be back for another pint soon.
