Indulge yourself with a day devoted to food and wine tasting in the Loire valley. A relaxing day at le tasting room in Cumeray to incorporate a tutored tasting, lunch in our 16th century barn and a gentle stroll around the pretty riverside village of Le Thoureil.

Enjoy a tutored tasting of 6 wines reflecting the diversity of this great winemaking region.  We run through the basics of tasting technique, discuss the geography of the region and unravel the mysteries of French wine labeling in the relaxed environment of our 16th century tasting room.

Relax in with an aperitif before moving to the 16th century barn for a delicious 3 course lunch.  A typical menu will include dishes such as marinated chicken breast with roasted mediterranean vegetables or oven roasted cod with a pea, leek and lardon ragout, a top quality cheeseboard, and a tarte au citron or plum clafoutis – all accompanied by wines from the region.

After lunch we stroll around the beautiful riverside village of Le Thoureil.  This ‘petite cité de caractère’ is an ancient mariner’s port that remains totally unspoilt today.  Calm and beautiful, the old limestone houses have stunning terraces with wonderful views of the river.

Loire Wine Discovery Tour

Our most popular tour which gives a fascinating insight into the wines and winemakers of the Loire valley.  The day includes a comprehensive tasting and lunch in the comfort of our old winemaker’s home followed by a guided winery visit in the afternoon.

Relax in the garden with an aperitif before moving into the cellar for a delicious home-made 3 course lunch with wine in our old barrel maturation cellar beneath the house.  Indulge in a selection of dishes creatively prepared using local ingredients sourced from our neighbouring potager, and herbs from our garden.

After lunch we drive to one of the many famous appellations and visit a winery where you’ll have the chance to taste a range of wines, stroll around the vineyards and buy wine at cellar door prices.

Grapes & Oranges

Intrigued? Grapes and oranges may seem an unlikely combination but did you know that Angers in the Loire valley is home to the world’s most famous Orange liqueur, Cointreau? This day combines a morning of wine tasting and an afternoon visit to the ultra modern distillery together with a lazy lunch in our old barrel cellar.

Can you think of anything nicer?  A morning spent learning about the wines of the Loire valley, a candlelit lunch in an old barrel cellar and then a leisurely trip along the river in a beautiful wooden boat. During the morning Cathy introduces you to the wines of the Loire valley with a comprehensive tasting.  You’ll discover the main grape varieties and styles of wine produced as well as learn a few local secrets.

After the tasting, we move to the garden for an aperitif before enjoying a relaxing 3 course lunch in our old barrel cellar.  Local dishes and specialities are served alongside seasonal salads and herbs from the garden, as well as a top quality cheeseboard and a delicious dessert.

After lunch we make our way down to our beautiful riverside village of Le Thoureil where we meet up with Alain Gillot who takes us out on his beautiful old ‘toue sablière’.  An intrepid traveller and experienced boatman, Alain has many stories to tell of life on the river both here and around the world. A local man, he has a wealth of knowledge and can tell you all about life on the river during centuries gone by.
