So it seems I’m going to have plenty of time to wander around the vineyards over the next few weeks. The plateau just above the house is planted with Chenin Blanc that is destined to become Vouvray.
Yesterday I went for a walk and took a few pics on my way around. The picture today is of a woolly bud. In French we call this stage ‘en coton’ and it signals the start of the new season.
If we have a frost any time from now then these tender buds can be killed.
These vines have clearly been pruned quite early and so their buds burst earlier than those pruned later. There are still plently of vines that remain to be pruned.
