Have you ever watched a bottle of Crémant being opened with a sword? It’s great fun and easier than you would imagine. We often do it here in France for a bit of fun when celebrating a big birthday or a family celebration, a christening or at New Year with friends.
Sabrer is the French word that we use for this. Sabrer means to sabre or slash. A sabre or sword is used to open the bottle of wine by sweeping it along the bottle up to the neck. You don’t need to apply much pressure, it’s in the action. A confident sweep will bring the neck of the bottle away with a clean break.
