Poiré is the French term for the English drink perry. Similar to cider except made using pears, it’s delicious and great served as an aperitif.
Eric Bordelet, (former sommelier at Alan Passard’s famous Parisien restaurant) took over the family domaine in 1992 and brought with him a conviction that cider and perry should be made just like wine. This cuvée of ‘Poiré Authentique’ comes from a blend of 14 different varieties of pear and undergoes a natural fermentation without the addition of any added sugar.
It’s delightful, low in alcohol and costs around 10 euros a bottle here in France.
