We were in Amboise yesterday and popped in to La Planque for a bite to eat at lunchtime.
This is a burger restaurant – but not what you might expect. Burgers are big in France these days. Some are great and some are mediocre. La Planque ticks all the boxes for us.
There are lots of positives about La Planque. Very friendly and helpful service. A lovely outside space to sit outside in the warmer months. Continuous service from 12 Noon until 9pm (this is unusual in France).
Nigel choose the confit of duck burger. Tender morsels of duck with a slightly curried mayonnaise, salad leaves and melted Tomme de Vache de Touraine. Verdict – excellent.

I had the pork belly burger. Tender yet with little crispy bits on the outside with some smoked bacon, mustard mayo and salad leaves again with Tomme de Vache de Touraine (you can opt for goat’s cheese if you prefer). Verdict – excellent also!
Both came with a serve of homemade fries and a chive, garlic sauce. We added a bowl of mesclun (young salad leaves) for a bit of freshness. It came nicely dressed with vinegar and walnut oil.

A 50cl bottle of Côt (Malbec) from Xavier Frissant just down the road in Mosnes and we were all set. 50cl is the perfect amount for lunch. It equates to one large glass of wine per person. Just enough without making you want to fall asleep after lunch.
The bill was 66€ including all the above and a coffee. We would definitely return.
They also offer a take-away service so if you’re staying in Amboise and fancy a tasty dinner but don’t want to eat out then you can collect and pick up a bottle of wine from to go with it while your’re there. There’s a veggie option too.
