Enjoy a tutored tasting of 6 wines reflecting the diversity of this great winemaking region in the comfort of our 16th century tasting room.  Cathy will run through the basics of tasting technique, discuss the geography of the region and unravel the mysteries of French wine labeling.

Unwind in the garden with an aperitif before moving into the candlelit cellar beneath the house for a delicious home-made 3 course lunch with wine.  Indulge in a selection of dishes creatively prepared using local ingredients sourced from our neighbouring potager, herbs from our garden, and a top quality cheeseboard sourced from Loire valley based fromager Pascal Beillevaire who has shops in Paris and London.

After lunch we drive to one of the many famous appellations and visit a winery where you’ll have the chance to taste a range of wines, stroll around the vineyards and buy wine at cellar door prices.  We often visit the stunning Chateau de Pimpéan which is a 15th century historic monument surrounded by 14 hectares of vineyards.

After lunch we stroll around the beautiful riverside village of Le Thoureil.  This ‘petite cité de caractère’ is an ancient mariner’s port that remains totally unspoilt today.  Calm and beautiful, the old limestone houses have stunning terraces with wonderful views of the river. If you are a keen photographer this is something not to be missed.

Intrigued? Grapes and oranges may seem an unlikely combination but did you know that Angers in the Loire valley is home to the world’s most famous Orange liqueur, Cointreau? This day combines a morning of wine tasting and an afternoon visit to the ultra modern distillery together with a lazy lunch in our old barrel cellar.

During the morning Cathy introduces you to the wines of the Loire valley with a comprehensive tasting.  You’ll discover the main grape varieties and styles of wine produced as well as learn a few local secrets in the comfort of our beautiful 16th century tasting room.

After the tasting, we move to the garden for an aperitif before enjoying a relaxing 3 course lunch in our old barrel cellar.  Local dishes and specialities are served alongside seasonal salads and herbs from the garden, as well as a top quality cheeseboard from celebrated fromager Pascal Beillievaire, and a delicious dessert.

We then make our way down to our beautiful riverside village of Le Thoureil where we meet up with Alain Gillot who takes us out on his beautiful old ‘toue sablière’.  An intrepid traveller and experienced boatman, Alain has many stories to tell of life on the river both here and around the world. A local man, he has a wealth of knowledge and can tell you all about life on the river during centuries gone by.
