New for 2020, this is a day when you’ll learn all about the wines of the Loire and all about French cheese culture. A perfect combination that combines tasting a range of wines from all over the Loire, a home cooked 2 course lunch and then an afternoon activity  that reveals all you need to know about French cheese.   If you’ve ever wondered how to put together a French cheeseboard, how to cut the cheeses and in what order to eat them, this is the day for you.

The tour starts from Le Tasting Room in Noizay, a small village in the heart of the Vouvray wine producing area of the Loire just 10 minutes from Amboise. This tour is available as a day trip from Paris.

Highlights

A comprehensive introduction to the wines of the Loire valley, its grape varieties and wine styles, a home cooked appetizer and entrée prepared using local ingredients from the markets and our garden. The chance to buy wine at cellar door prices. An afternoon devoted to French cheese, including a tasting of a range of local cheeses, guidance on how to cut, and serve French cheeses and the accompaniments served with them. Enjoy a tutored tasting of 6 wines reflecting the diversity of this great winemaking region in the comfort of our tasting room. We run through the basics of tasting technique, discuss the geography of the region and unravel the mysteries of French wine labelling.

Relax in the garden with an aperitif before a delicious home-made 2 course lunch with wine. Indulge in a selection of dishes creatively prepared using local ingredients sourced from our local markets and our garden.

We then head off to the charming private home of Kim Brindel, a native New Yorker residing in France for over 20 years and married to a Parisien. Kim lives on the Île d’Or overlooking the beautiful chateau of Amboise and during the afternoon she will introduce you to a selection of French cheeses that illustrates the many varieties and the regions they come from. She’ll focus on local cheese from the Loire valley and while tasting, you’ll learn how to prepare a balanced cheeseboard, how to correctly cut each cheese, and the best order in which to eat them.

Different condiments to compliment the cheeses will be served according to the seasons and the dégustation will end with a classic French dessert prepared with fresh, soft cheese.

New for 2020, we’ve teamed up with local brewery ART IS AN ALE BREWING to combine wine and beer in a full day tour that combines the very best of both worlds. Taste a range of wines from all over the Loire valley during the morning, enjoy a home cooked lunch in a private home and then discover the world of craft beer in the afternoon.

In the afternoon we drive to ART IS AN ALE BREWING, a thriving craft brewery in the centre of Amboise where we’ll have a private tour with the owners. Katie, (originally from California), met her French husband Matt, while studying photography in Denton Texas. Together they opened their brewery in Amboise last year where Matt brews a fabulous range of top quality American style craft beers using French ingredients. Here you’ll learn about the brewing process and taste their 4 signature beers and 2 seasonal beers.

Going Back in Time to the Future of Loire Wine (Day Trip from Paris)

This Loire wine tour is available as a day trip from Paris and has a focus on organic wines and the natural approach to growing vines.

Increasingly, small, high quality growers are using horses to work their most prestigious parcels. A labour of love, it relies on the close connection between man/woman and these beautiful horses.

The day includes a trip into the vineyards to see these beautiful horses at work, a tutored tasting, 3 course home cooked lunch and a winery visit in the afternoon.

We’ll head out in the vineyards to track down Philippe and his beautiful horses at one of the many parcels so you have the chance to see first hand the incredible work he does (this is obviously weather dependent and also depends upon the time of year).

Having been out in the vineyard we then return to our tasting room where we run through the basics of tasting technique, discuss the geography of the region and unravel the mysteries of French wine labelling. This tasting concentrates on wines made by organic and biodynamic producers and those who work to use few additives in the winery or vineyard.

Relax in the garden with an aperitif before a delicious home-made 3 course lunch with wine.  Indulge in a selection of dishes creatively prepared using local ingredients sourced from our neighbouring potager and local suppliers, herbs from our garden and a selection of cheeses from a top quality supplier. We’ll share food and wine pairing advice and tips and relax in true French style.

After lunch we’ll head off out and visit a local grower in the region where you’ll have the chance to taste another range of wines. We work with a selection of small growers that all make wine with the environment in mind.
