What are we drinking this week? Chateau Yvonne Saumur Blanc 2011
If you remember 2011 was a hot, sunny vintage that saw rich ripe reds and luscious whites. We opened Mathieu Vallée’s Saumur Blanc last night.
What are we drinking this week? Chateau Yvonne 2012
We’ve been working with Mathieu Vallée of Chateau Yvonne for the past 8 years and love his wines. A former engineer, Mathieu took over Chateau Yvonne in 2007. He has 28 small parcels dotted around the Saumur Champigny appellation (3ha of Chenin and 8ha of Cabernet Franc).
Favourite producers in the Loire – Chateau Yvonne, Parnay, Saumur Champigny
Mathieu Vallée has 11 hectares in the Saumur region. 28 tiny parcels dotted around the Saumur Champigny villages keep him on his toes and it’s always difficult to pin him down for a tasting. He makes a small range of wines (3 reds and 2 whites) and we popped in to pick up some stock and catch up on his news.
Wine tasting in the Loire
Wine tasting in the Loire is unique and tasting rooms range from very rustic to chic and modern.
