As the weeks go by, we have a clearer idea of the level of frost damage in individual parcels here in the Loire.
It takes a little while for secondary shoots to push and then for us to see if they are fruitful or not.
Walking around the vineyards of Limeray yesterday we came across a vineyard that seems to have suffered badly.
Take a look at the pictures. A cane replacement pruning system has been used here which means there is one long cane plus one spur on the other side. You can see that nearly all of the buds on the long cane were killed by the frost. The picture is pretty consistent throughout the vineyard. There won’t be much to pick from these vines.
