We’d been thinking about moving for a couple of years. The house seemed big without the children and we had been toying with the idea of relocating the business further east for a while. In February we received an offer on the house from a local French couple that we refused. Several months later they came back with a better offer and after a little negotiating, we agreed terms and started making plans for the next phase in our lives.
So, on Friday of last week, we signed the house over and walked away from le tasting room in Cumeray for the last time. It was very hard and we both felt very emotional. The house in Cumeray was our first house together, the beginning of our adventure. We brought my three children and a chocolate lab with us when we moved from the UK in 2006 and the first couple of years were tough for everyone. That all seems so long ago now. So many happy family meals, so many shared bottles of wine, so many wonderful days spent with people from all over the world.
We launched le tasting room in 2008 and 10 years later, we take with us a business that we are proud of as we move onto the next phase in our lives. If all goes to plan, we’ll be very close to the wine village of Vouvray, just 15 minutes from Amboise and 20 minutes from Tours. We’ll be closer to road and rail links with Paris, within easy striking distance of the airport and very much in the heart of Touraine surrounded by all the famous chateaux.
For the next three months we’ll still be in Anjou. We’re lucky enough to have a lovely little house owned by friends where we can stay until we take possession of the new one early next year. The house we have found has many similarities to our old one. It’s quirky and has bags of character. You’ll have to come and see us!
We’re also very happy that the couple that has bought our house has really fallen in love with it just as we did 12 years ago. A newly formed couple as we were, they are bringing children and life to the hamlet once again.
Our business will reopen from our new address in mid-march when we’ll be adding some new and interesting options to our website.
