A moody shot taken from the top of Chateau de Montsoreau this weekend. Contrary to popular opinion, most of the Loire chateaux were not built on the Loire – most of them are situated away from the river on tributaries. Chateau de Montsoreau is the exception being built directly above the river and in days gone by its moats would have been fed with water from the Loire. The views from the top of the chateau are stunning even on a grey day in October. This is the point where the Loire meets the Vienne.
