A few pictures taken yesterday in the Saumur Champigny appellation. As you can see there is a little more development and the tiny leaves are beginning to unfurl. We have had glorious sunny weather for the past two days and it’s set to continue over the weekend with temperatures reaching 28°C (82°F).

I never thought I’d get excited about beans. That is until I met the Coco de Paimpol.
Flowering is an important stage in the vineyard year. Vines further east have flowered and the fruit has set whereas here in Anjou, our vines are in full flower.

We enjoyed a lovely summer dinner with good friends John and Sheila Wilton recently. John served a delicious filo pastry crab and goat’s cheese parcel as the appetizer and he kindly agreed to share his recipe with us.
Bad news from the UK. The vineyard where Nigel worked before we moved to France suffered terrible frost damage a few nights ago. 90-100% damage.
My first experience of eating gougères was in the 1980’s when visiting Louis Jadot in Beaune. A huge basket was passed around as we tasted.
