The Loire harvest 2018

The Loire harvest 2018 has begun and vintage is now in full swing. First to be given the go ahead were the Chardonnays destined for sparkling wine, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir followed by the ban de vendanges in Anjou for Chenin. Growers in Muscadet, Sancerre and Montlouis are all picking grapes this week. Other growers are still holding off for optimum maturity and Cabernet Franc destined for reds will follow that.

I’ll be reporting as we get more news but generally growers are happy with what is coming in to the wineries despite the problems with mildew earlier in the season.
