Temperatures are forecast to drop below zero again this weekend in the Loire valley with the early hours of Monday morning presenting the greatest risk.
Growers in Vouvray, Montlouis sur Loire, Saumur Champigny, the hills of the Layon in Anjou and Savennières braced themselves for another sleepless night last night. Early reports this morning seem positive for the most part although the thermometer did dip below zero in Antoine Sanzay’s vineyards in the Saumur Champigny appellation.
Everyone will be on high alert again tonight so I’ll report back early next week. This is proving to be a very challenging start to the season for growers all over the Loire valley.
