Domaine de la Bergerie – lovely wines and a great restaurant

We’re happy to add another local producer to our Loire wine tastings this year.  Domaine de la Bergerie in Champ sur Layon makes a lovely range of wines that we’ll have the pleasure of sharing with you as part of our Loire Wine Discovery tour.  What’s more, the domaine is one of the few in the Loire valley to boast a restaurant among the vines so if you decide to spend more than one day here in the Loire, this is an address you should put on your list. Anne Guégniard runs the domaine with her parents and her husband David Guitton is chef at La Table.  It’s a winning combination and the food our kind of food.  Our lunch today was a risotto with fresh herbs, lemon and parmesan, a perfectly tender chicken breast roasted with seasonal vegetables and a hint of Tandoori, and a delightful little rum cake surrounded by a pool of light, creamy vanilla custard. This was the weekday menu for 23€ and included a glass of wine (from the domaine of course).  Presentation is refined and elegant and the service smiley and unstuffy.
