2009 was a rich vintage with the wines from the Loire showing lovely weight, richness and fruit both in the reds and the whites. Domaine Richou’s Les Rogeries Anjou Blanc 2009 is a great example. Lovely ripe fruit, citric and apricot aromas with a touch of saffron are backed up with a rich, full, velvety palate and great length. Right at the end, a little touch of grapefruit pops up, so typical of Chenin Blanc from Anjou. It’s been a while since we enjoyed a bottle and this sadly was the last one. Time in oak gives it a richness and depth but there is no sense of the wood dominating the wine. Really, really good.
