There are no translations available. If you are thinking of spending a little time in the Loire valley I can certainly recommend the small city of Angers. We enjoyed a super lunch at Le Relais today. A traditional restaurant (in the nicest way), we loved the food, the service was efficient and discreet, the maitre d welcoming, the wines served at the right temperature. It's close to the station so an ideal spot if you have just come in from Paris for a couple of days.
We had a velouté of celeri with smoked haddock to start with and then I followed with a very rich venison casserole served with red cabbage and apple. Nigel had piece de boeuf served with a pesto sauce, green salad and smashed new potatoes. It had bags of flavour and was cooked perfectly (saignant). We enjoyed a glass of Crémant to start with and then shared a half bottle of Anjou Rouge from Ledouc Frouhin which had good fruit and stood up well to the strong red meat flavours. With a coffee a piece the bill came to just over 70€ which we felt was good value for money. |
