Day of Arrival
Cathy and Nigel will collect you from the station in Angers (the train that arrives at 09h24) or from your accommodation if you have travelled to Angers the day before.
We’ll come and pick you up after breakfast and drive you to le tasting room where you will spend the morning discovering ‘Loire Valley Varietals’. This guided tasting introduces you to the main grape varieties and styles of wine in the Loire valley.
After an aperitif in the garden we’ll move into the cellar for a 3 course candlelit lunch with wine. Enjoy a selectton of dishes prepared using local seasonal ingredients, our own herbs and salads from the garden, and a superb cheeseboard sourced from Loire valley based fromager Pascal Beillevaire.
In the afternoon we’ll head off out into the vineyards and visit one of the many wineries that we work with. The producers we visit are small and many are off the beaten track. The visit includes time spent in the vineyard where Nigel will explain all the important stages in the vine’s lifecycle, and there will be the opportunity to taste the wines and purchase at cellar door prices.
You have a free morning to potter around the beautiful small city of Angers. You might like to visit the Chateau d’Angers with it’s medieval tapestry or just sit and watch the world go by in one of the many pavement cafés. We’ll collect you just after lunch and we’ll then head off to red wine country. 2 visits to wineries located in the appellations of Chinon, Bourgueil, St Nicolas de Bourgueil or Saumur Champigny where you’ll have the chance to buy wines at cellar door prices.
At the end of the day, we’ll drop you back off in Angers so you have time to freshen up before dinner.
We’ll collect you from your hotel after breakfast and head off back into the vineyards. In the morning we’ll have a lovely long walk around the vineyards of the Layon valley. We’ll talk terroir and you’ll get a real feel for the landscape. After working up an appetite for lunch we’ll stop off at one of the only vineyards restaurants in the Loire valley, La Table de la Bergerie. Nestling in the middle of the vines, this tiny restaurant has an open kitchen and offers a lovely lunch menu accompanied by wines from the domaine. After lunch we’ll visit another winery before returning you back to your accommodation or the station at the end of the day.
