WSET Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Wines and Spirits PDF Print E-mail

A three day course from 09h30 - 17h00 each day, to include buffet lunch.

This course may also be studied 1 day a week over 9 weeks, or alternatively as a Distance Learning Package, where study materials and on-line tutorial are provided, with attendance required only for the examination. See below for dates and timings.

The Level 2 Intermediate Certificate is an introductory course suitable for anyone wishing to broaden their knowledge of wines.  You will learn about the major grape varieties and wine styles from the key wine producing countries of the world, the main spirits categories, and understand the factors that influence the style, quality and price.

This course is aimed at those employed in the drinks industry who have little previous knowledge of wines and spirits. It is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry, but who wish to broaden their knowledge in a more structured way.

The qualification covers the wines and spirits of the world, and is followed by a one hour multiple-choice examination. Wine tasting is an integral part of every class.

Course programme:

  • Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting, and food and wine matching
  • Grape growing and wine making
  • Key wine and spirit producing regions
  • Key grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Grenache
  • Sparkling and sweet wines
  • Fortified wines, spirits and liqueurs
  • Social responsibility

To gain the Level 2 qualification candidates will be required to:

  • Complete a programme of training
  • Successfully complete a multiple-choice paper
  • Be 16 or over at time of registration

It is advised that candidates book well in advance for the three day course to enable study materials to be sent out several weeks beforehand.

Price: 500€ per person, to include study materials (sent out in advance), samples, tuition, lunch on all three days, examination and provision of tasting glasses during the course.
