A few photos from a recent visit to Savennières as part of a one day Loire wine tour.

The village of Epiré is in the heart of the Savennières appellation and is known for its classic, elegant, minerally white wines from the Chenin Blanc grape variety.

We enjoyed a bottle of Domaine de la Noblaie's Les Blancs Manteaux 2006 over the weekend with guests from New York and England.

Les Blancs Manteaux 2006 - Domaine de la Noblaie

The vines used to make this wine are around 6o years old on average and the wine has a lovely black fruit nose.  On the palate, it's rounded and fruity with some tannin present but not dominating.  It went well with a selection of charcuterie, cheeses and crusty bread at le tasting room before going out in the afternon to visit some local producers.

We had very successful day last week with Raina and Jason from Houston in Texas.  We collected them from the TGV station in Angers and headed out to Savennières for a morning tasting with Mme Laroche at Domaine aux Moines.

It was fascinating to taste and discuss the different vintages and see just how big an impact vintage has upon final wine style as well as the impact of age on these extraordinary wines.

We are running a similar tour tomorrow 23rd March, picking up from Angers TGV at 09.30 and returning to the station in time for the 18.38 train back into Montparnasse.  Contact Cathy for further details.

We had the pleasure of meeting Jan and Gerdie Liebreks at the Salon des Vins in Angers recently.  They have a wonderful chateau close by us in Blaison Gohier which offers  chambres d'hotes in the heart of their own vineyard.

We are currently developing a short break using the Chateau de Cheman as accommodation.  As Jan and Gerdie operate all year round like le tasting room, this offers the ideal place to stay.  More information to follow but here are a few photos taken recently on a cold winter's day.

A couple of vineyard shots from this week.  Taken at 8 in the morning, the vineyard was covered with a thick layer of white frost which glistened as the sun began to rise.
