The river Loire at St Mathurin

This is one of my favourite photos of the river Loire taken at St Mathurin just 5km from our home in Anjou.  I was standing on the opposite bank of the river by the bridge at St Mathurin and the light was wonderful so I took a few shots on the mobile.  The blue of the sky and the reflection of the buildings on the water gives it an almost Italian feel. St Mathurin is one of several pretty villages perched on the riverside between Angers and Saumur and this is the route we take when collecting customers from the station in the morning who have come down from Paris for the day.

Along this stretch of the Loire are several churches that were funded and built by the local mariners.  For this reason they are built facing the river, the place where the mariners were most at home.
